Farewell Old Blog

September 1, 2009

It is time to say goodbye to this old blog and say hello to the new improved version! I will no longer make posts here. All new posts will be made at www.pawsupblog.com . Woohoo! This new blog comes with an easy to remember url. I`m very excited to have this new blog and for the most part my new website up and running. The DNS still has to propagate. I have found viewing my new site to be spotty. Last night I was able to view it and this morning was a no go. Hurry up and wait! One more day and it should be smooth sailing.

Here is a peek at the new blog and I hope to see you there!

Dezi and his Ball

August 27, 2009

I had the lovely opportunity to have a session with Dezi + Mom and Dad (some of the nicest people I have met so far!) this past Sunday in their beautiful Sherwood Park backyard. The weather looked a little iffy but the clouds did not part and no rain fell. Dezi is 6 years old and is absolutely smitten with his ball. I was told the story of how his ball fell into the heating duct during home construction and after figuring out why Dezi was so sad, Mom and Dad ripped apart the heating system to find his beloved ball.

We went around to the front of the house to take some family pictures by a huge rock with beautifully crafted house numbers on it. I took a few shots of Dezi on the rock by himself but he was pretty apprehensive about being up that high all alone.

DNS Propagation

August 26, 2009

I am very excited. My new site is complete and I am just waiting for DNS Propagation, this could take 72 hours or so. I’m finding it very difficult not to check my domain every 20 minutes. I will make a more detailed post about the site here once everything is fully operational. This new site looks more polished and together.

I once read on a wedding site somewhere about tips for finding a good wedding photographer. The top tip was to ask to see examples of full wedding shoots rather than allowing the photographer to only show you their favourite images sampled from various weddings. I have followed this line of thinking with the new galleries on my site. I have featured two sessions with the intent to add more in the near future. All images in these galleries are part of the final product shown to the client. I may have omitted some owner kitty or owner doggy images out of client consideration.

Heart NY

August 19, 2009

Alright! I have finished processing most of the pictures I took on my recent trip to New York. It was our first time there and we had a great time. There is no way that I can post everything here, so I decided to almost entirely post pictures of just Top of the Rock. I loved it up there!

We stayed at the Paramount Hotel on W 46th Street. It is an amazing location just one block from Times Square. We caught a show of the Lion King which was also just one block over. Luckily (or unluckily for our waistlines) one of the best places of pizza in New York is right next to the Paramount. I am not kidding! We ate at Patzeria Pizza almost every single day we were there. It’s a tiny little place with barely enough room to stand but it sure is tasty! Below is a picture of our room. I forget what we paid per night but I remember it being a deal.

One of the highlights of our trip was Top of the Rock. We also did the Empire State Building, but I found the views far nicer at Top of the Rock. There is a great view of Central Park and the Empire State Building itself. There are multiple set back floors to visit. The top most floor is set back enough from the edge of the building that no glass or barricade is required and you have an unobstructed view. Another bonus is your ticket is booked for a specific time of the day which eliminates long lineups. It could have been the time of day we visited, but Top of the Rock was far less busy.

Back to Reality

August 17, 2009

Apologies for the lack of blog posts. I was on vacation for a week. I attended my brothers wedding in British Columbia and then my boyfriend and I went to New York for 5 days. We had a great time (our first time there)! I would love to go back again in a few years. The people and pizza were great! I will try my best to upload some trip photo’s in the next day or so.

Inspired

July 29, 2009

In the past week or so there has been a flurry of activity in my brain.  When I started my journey into professional photography back in January I really struggled with pricing and packages.

Now after about 6 months I am beginning to brainstorm and rethink the way I do things. In particular the services/products that I want to offer to clients, my pricing, and creative ways I can distinguish myself.

I came across Design Aglow a few days ago on twitter via the lovely Cowbelly. I had no idea that such a site existed! Design Aglow offers a wealth of resources for professional wedding and portrait photographers and I have been absorbing the information from their Article Collections. Their blog contains amazing inspirational ideas and examples.

Last night I came up with a new concept/project. Now I just have to do a bit more research into materials and sketch out some possibilities. I’m quite excited about it; it fits perfectly with the brad that I am trying to create. In a way it is inspired by client comments and requests. I really hope that all goes well and I am able to share more soon!

Pooch Trio

July 27, 2009

I had the pleasure of photographing these crazy guys last Tuesday. First, let me introduce you to Fizzgig a 3 year old pom/shih tzu/pug. His haircut strangely reminds me of Moe from the Three Stooges. Anyone else see that?

Here is Barkley. I just loved Barkley’s face. It’s very expressive and he most definitely knows how to smile.

Below you can see Barkey’s Ewok lips….they make my chuckle! Barkley is a 7 year old bichon/maltese cross.

Alfalfa is an 11 year old  lhasa apso. He liked to bark every time I took a picture. I guess when you are 11 years old it’s acceptable to be a little cranky!

And with the end of this post I am all caught up with my processing and blogging! Yeah! Excellent timing as I am off to my Brothers Wedding in BC next week and then off to New York for 5 days. I am going to need to buy a bigger memory card!
